Automatic air valves, air and vacuum valves, and combination air valves are the three varieties of air valves that may be found in various water distribution systems.

Combination air valves are sometimes referred to as double orifice air valves, double acting air valves, and dual orifice air valves. All these names refer to the same type of valve.

The dimensions of the air valves and their positions

Dimensions of air valves are determined for a given installation by considering flow rate, geographic location, and air valve performance. Therefore, the diameter of the pipe that the air valve is put on does not correspond exactly to the diameter of the air valve’s DN. Advanced calculation programmes provide analyses such as fill rate analysis, drainage analysis, burst analysis, water column separation analysis, and energy saving analysis, which are used to define the size and location of air valves for a particular project. These analyses help determine how large the air valves should be.The release of undesirable air pockets from inside a pipeline is the primary purpose of an air valve; but, for it to perform its role properly, it must be put in the appropriate location. It is possible for the performance of the air valve to be greatly improved by moving it to the appropriate place. As a result, air valves need to be fitted at those spots along the pipeline that are most likely to experience a pressure that is lower than atmospheric pressure. In general, the best location for installing an air valve is at the highest point of the pipeline, and the valve itself must be always positioned in a vertical orientation.Prior to the installation of an air valve, careful consideration must be given to the site to ensure that the valve will be safe from hazards such as flooding, pollution, and freezing temperatures. Maintenance, operation, and inspection should not be difficult to perform if the air valve is freely accessible.
